The History of PJ Printers

From beginning with just hard work and a desire to serve, to today with more hard work and a firm commitment to serve, PJ Printers has grow from 1 employee and no home, to 60+ employees and 3 homes.

Jeff Lane was working at Enterprise Printing as a pressman when the owner suggested that he get a business license to handle the growing number of customers requesting to work with him and in 1983 PJ Printers was born. More customers kept coming and PJ Printers soon moved to Langdon Press. For Jeff and his wife Pam, there were many long days and nights of printing, packaging, and delivering. Through it all, there was one constant - PJ Printers was being blessed as it continued to grow; and in 1989, PJ’s moved to its first permanent home on Fender Avenue in Fullerton, complete with one small press and one large press.

For four years, Jeff and his growing crew were able to groove a path, establishing solid client relationships and positive word of mouth generating new clients. As PJ’s client base grew so did requests for work, and each year PJ Printers expanded into yet another unit on Fender, eventually occupying three units. Units to occupy ran out prompting PJ’s move in November of 1993 to larger quarters on Las Brisas Place in Placentia, with a new 2-color press, a Mueller, another letterpress, a folder, a front office and, finally, an office just for Jeff.

As technology grew, Jeff realized the benefit of generating film and offering digital prepress, design and layout capabilities to PJ’s clients, so he added an imagesetter and two Mac work stations. Complementing these added abilities was the addition of a 4-color press and a 2nd shift handling the increase in work. Eventually prepress was increased to 5 Mac work stations and 1 PC work station. The new work generated a need for more personnel and more space, prompting Jeff to lease extra building space as needed to accommodate the growing business. Supporting this rise in business, PJ’s expanded in the only direction left – up, creating office space for estimating, customer service and billing.

Continuing to run out of work spaces and parking spaces, Jeff knew that PJ’s would once again need to move to larger quarters. The move to the brand new shop at 1530 North Lakeview Avenue on the Placentia/Anaheim border was completed in July of 2001. And once again, with the new building came new equipment; this time a six color Komori press with coater, ready to run before the building was even finished. And once again, the new building came with lots of room to expand in all directions, which we are fully committed to doing.

Whether you’ve been working with us since Fender, Las Brisas or just since the move to Lakeview, we appreciate all of our customers and thank you for the opportunity to continue to serve your printing needs.
